What started as a simple birdwatching trip quickly turned into something completely unexpected here at Cog Hill Farm. What started as a normal morning at Cog Hill Farm quickly turned into a problem we couldn’t ignore. We’ve been dealing with eggs disappearing from our nesting boxes, and today I set out to figure out exactly what’s going on—and hopefully fix it for good. I tried a simple solution using something we already had on hand to stop chickens from eating eggs from the bottom of the nesting boxes. The big question was… would it actually work? We tested it in real time to see if the eggs would still roll like they’re supposed to, or if I just made things worse. While all of that was going on, we also took our ducklings outside for the first time to see if they were ready for a little more freedom. Let’s just say… that didn’t go exactly as planned either. From gathering eggs, working through problems in the coop, and making small improvements around the farm, this is just another real, unscripted day of farm life here at Cog Hill Farm.
